Memory of Ngu King Lee

Ngu King Lee's life is no doubt a tragedy though he would have been a highly respected gentleman living a peaceful and happy family life.  In the days of his struggle in the political field, he suffered greatly being subject to all sorts of pressures not only from his peers, but also from his family.  Before he joined politics, he was a simple clerk in a council office.  He was invited by the then mayor to join his bank and he could have just worked on until he retired with no much disruption at all. But due to the fire of leftist movement, he was also drawn into the struggle and thence there was no return path.  He joined the open political party worked his way up active in politics and labour movement too.  He was also chosen by the leftists in their underground activities as a leader in the open front.  After the Brunei Incident, he was also detained in the detention camp.  He was later released after the Sri Aman Peace Accord and went back to work in the bank. During this time,he had big trouble with his comrades and some chose to attack him for being weak and wavering in his stand.  Being an honest and conscientious man he could not stand the fierce attacks of his erstwhile friends and comrades . Also at this time there was also rumour of his matrimonial relationship.  So the last straw broke the camel's back, he chose to jump from the flat of the hospital he lodged and died instantly. Thus ended the life of an honest and kind man who should be respected for his sincerity and simple but true wishes for the betterment of the life of the people at heart.
